SDL MENTOR ME!

I have been a mentor in the Western Connecticut State University MFA program since 2013 and have led the Children’s and YA section of the Yale Writers’ Workshop since 2016.

I love to help other writers achieve success, by providing writing feedback and tools to help conquer the “Inner Crazy Person” we all have – even those of us who have published novels in the double digits.

Note: If you write picture books and early readers, I’m not the best person for your project. But if Middle Grade and Young Adult are your jam, I would love to work with you!

I offer a range of services at different price points.

SERVICES OFFERED

GETTING STARTED CONSULT – First 20-30 pages and outline

This is for you if you’re in the early stages of writing your first draft and want feedback about the direction you’re heading before you proceed further.

I will read your first 20-30 pages (double-spaced, 12-point font) and your outline and provide you with a Mentor Memo with a big picture overview of what you’ve written so far and identify strengths and potential pitfalls the first pages and the outline. I will make suggestions and ask questions for you to consider as you continue writing your first draft.

I will also provide more specific line edits, suggestions, and observations within your document.

After you have had the opportunity to digest my feedback, we will have a 30-minute Zoom call for you to ask questions and for us to brainstorm solutions.

COST: USD $800.00

FULL DRAFT MANUSCRIPT CONSULT

This is for you if you have already completed your first draft and done a preliminary revision on your own.

I will read your entire manuscript, provide a detailed Mentor Memo which will address what is working in the draft and what isn’t. This is a big picture overview for you to think about before you start revising. In this memo I will also ask questions to help you dig deeper into plot, characterization, and structure.

I will also provide more specific edits, suggestions, and observations within your document.

After you have had the opportunity to digest my feedback, we will have a 30-minute Zoom call for you to ask questions.

COST: USD $ 0.04 per word

MENTOR ME AS I WRITE

If you’re interested in an individual mentorship to hold you accountable with deadlines and to provide support and critique as you go, this could be the best option for you. We will meet to discuss your project and once we both agree we’re a good fit, we’ll create a submission schedule. You will submit to me regularly on agreed upon dates, and I will get feedback to you within a week. I might suggest comp titles for you to read and possibly craft books and articles to give you additional tools for your writer’s toolbox. I’ll be there to hold your hand or crack the whip, depending on what is needed at different stages of the process.

COST: USD $200/hour

If you think we might be a good fit, please use this contact form to email me with information about you, your project, and your timeline for completion. I’m obsessive about meeting deadlines, so I want to be realistic if yours works with other projects I’ve got going.
